Road to close for ribbon cutting at $207.5 million new Columbus judicial center
The John D. Allen Judicial Center is eight stories tall, with a basement, and will comprise 13 courtrooms. A portion of 10th Street in Columbus, Georgia, will close for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the John D. Allen Judicial Center after nearly three years of construction. The $207.5 million budget was raised through the 1% special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) Muscogee County voters approved in 2021, and $7.5m from the city's general fund. The facility is named after the late Judge John Allen, who served as a fighter pilot in Vietnam and a Recorder’s Court judge, a State Court judge and a Superior Court judge. The judicial center is 342,000 square feet and includes a new court tower, renovated wing buildings, and an underground parking area. The ceremony will bring together elected officials, judicial leaders and community partners.
