Grandview Heights eaglet makes miraculous recovery at Ohio Bird Sanctuary
Saving Star. American bald eagle couple Athena and Apollo fell from their nest on August 1, causing Star to be left in critical condition. She was transported to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary in Mansfield, Ohio, and underwent a critical but otherwise stable recovery. Despite being non-responsive at intake, the OBS team prioritized lifesaving supportive care including heat and oxygen support, an intravenous catheter for fluid therapy, and in-house tests to check for lead toxicity, which is common in bald eagles and other scavenging species. Within 72 hours, Star began to show signs of improvement and was released into the wild on August 18. The release location was carefully chosen by the Ohio Division of Wildlife, taking into account factors such as her age and rehabilitation time.
