Local nonprofit bridges mental health awareness and accessible care through art and community cultivation
Creative Compassion. The Scatter Joy Project, a nonprofit founded by Westerville resident Zach Thompson, aims to build community, spark conversations and make mental health care more accessible through its events and free resources. The project was inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson's The Conduct of Life (1860). Thompson experienced his own struggles with mental health and felt compelled to create a project that went beyond raising awareness. The company's initial launch was centered on an apparel line, which sold out within two days. Funding for resources such as the Crisis Text Line, the Find Help Network and the Therapy Fund is also a key funding source. ScatterJoy also engages in various initiatives such as random acts of joy during Mental Health Awareness Month and a community service scavenger hunt during Suicide Prevention Month.
