They describe the apartment as being unlivable and fearlessly living with their two young children. The couple moved their belongings to an empty unit in the same building, but the mold in the unit below is causing issues for others. Living in the situation has led them to hospital and doctor's offices multiple times for lung problems. A couple said mold is creating medical issues for some families living at a Columbus problem property.
They describe the apartment as being unlivable but said they're stuck living there.
"It’s scary," said Joseph Parthemore. "I told everybody I’m afraid to live here."
Joseph and Emily Parthemore and their two young kids live at Greenwood Village Apartments, also known as Southpark Apartments, in the Franklinton area.
Their old unit is empty right now, but the video shows what the couple describes as mold growing on the walls and feces on the floor and in the bathtub.
"I can’t have my kids living in feces because then if Children Services comes out here, they’re going to get ripped out of me because of you guys," said Emily Parthemore. "I can’t risk my kids. I can’t."
She said the moved their belongings to an empty unit in the same building, but she said the mold in the unit below is causing issues for her families and others.
"We have to feel like we have to fend for our own lives in the situation," said Joseph Parthemore. "I don’t know what else to do."
They said living in the situation has sent them to the hospital and doctor's offices multiple times for lung problems. According to the couple, management is not helpful.
"I asked them what if you was in that situation, how would you feel," said Joseph Parthemore. "And then you get mad at us for us acting the way we do."
"Me and her we’ve went to the office, we've made complaints, we've done maintenance requests, the only thing they’ve done is had Mr. Rooter come out and soak up the water," said Emily Parthemore. "That’s the only thing they’ve done."
As of this report, the apartment's management company, FPI Management, Inc., has not replied to ABC6/Fox28's request for more information. The company is based in California.
According to records obtained by ABC6/FOX28, there have been 69 calls about the complex to 311 from July 2022 through June 3, 2024. Most complaints have a status listed as "no cause for action." But a few require reinspection.
The couple said they've submitted complaints to 311 and haven't had any luck.
"What if something happens to one of my kids, or I’m planning a funeral for my husband because he caught it again," said Emily Parthemore. "I can’t do that."
